▼Third‑party brand CollectionSpace debuted with two transformable figures in their Transformable Bishoujo line: Little Bee Mecha Girl and Little Red Mecha Girl.

▼Because most of the transformation relies on the backpack, the backpack design significantly lowered the overall score of that mold. A Mecha Girl figure whose main selling point is its aesthetic appeal fails when the backpack interferes with its form—naturally, it wasn’t a very successful product.

▼When the company revealed their third Transformers Mecha Girl — Starscream — last year, it finally felt like a refreshing new direction; this StarQueen clearly learned from past mistakes and made significant improvement in aesthetic modeling.

▼After several months of silence and nearly a year’s wait, StarQueen finally shipped! Today, let’s take a detailed look at how this new release performs in every aspect.
The packaging is fairly simple: the box cover features a rendered image of the product, with a side-profile close‑up of the head sculpt in the background. I personally like the purple‑to‑pink gradient color scheme—it suits this figure’s vibe very well.

▼The back of the box includes colored renders introducing StarQueen’s two modes and head sculpt. This section could be improved — you have a figure with excellent poseability, so showing a few nice human‑mode poses would greatly enhance the packaging’s presentation.
On the top left it says: “I AM DESTINED TD THE LEADER!”

▼Next is the backpack, which houses most of the transformation mechanism. This version’s flight mode backpack is a big improvement over the previous one in aesthetics. The two signature null‑ray weapons attach to adjustable mechanical rods, allowing freely adjustable angles.

▼There are two aspects of the backpack design that could still be improved: First, the blue peg connecting the backpack to the body is a single round peg. While it allows more adjustability, it compromises stability—using a square peg or dual‑peg connector would be more stable. Second, the red landing gear hatch at the root of the aircraft nose is asymmetrical and cannot be folded into the backpack interior—a small detail that may drive perfectionists nuts.

▼Look at the figure with the backpack equipped: StarQueen is covered in metallic and pearlescent gray paint with tampo printed detail. The finish feels good and the silhouette doesn’t look bulky.

▼The side profile is also well-rendered, with a well‑sculpted feminine contour.

▼The backpack stores nearly 85% of the aircraft parts when folded, and the real nose section is hidden on the inner side — quite compact.

▼From the rear view, the backpack components are numerous and obscure the figure’s curves, somewhat affecting aesthetics. But don’t worry—we’ll cover optimization tips shortly.

▼In response to player suggestions, the final production version of StarQueen included four gray faceplates—a much better choice. The eye area uses red metallic paint with excellent reflectivity. Even under the visor, they gleam with an evil red glow.

▼Thanks to the transformation design, the helmet sides open up, making faceplate swaps easier—this is a design detail that other third‑party brands could learn from.

▼Let’s look at the remaining seven faceplates:

▼The two large “lights” on the chest are soft‑plastic inserts—quite cheeky. Note: These inserts are not firmly secured and may pop off during transformation or posing. I recommend using a small dab of water‑based glue to fix them.

▼Opening the chest armor revealed that the factory applied glue over painted surfaces, which dissolved the paint and caused the chest piece to fall off. Before re‑gluing, it’s best to sand the embedded surface a bit to prevent future detachment.

▼They added an extension piece to the stiletto heels for better stability. This allows many elegant poses even without a stand. If it looks awkward, it can fold inward and be hidden.

▼Personally, I find the butt curve not very attractive; it’s too flat. Perhaps a design choice for transformation storage. A Furai Model Arcee–style curve would have been perfect.

▼The gray area on the butt also uses soft plastic—another fan-suggested improvement; previously it was all red.

▼Articulation is a key standard for Mecha Girls! Let’s see StarQueen’s poseability in action:
Head tilt: 25° sideways.

▼Neck: 360° free rotation.

▼Downward tilt: ~40°, with shadows plus red eye glow giving scheming vibe.

▼Upward tilt: >45°, thanks to neck collar clearance.

▼The shoulders can lift laterally beyond 130°, with smooth front and back rotation; the upper arms can rotate 360°. The elbows are double-jointed for transformation purposes, allowing a bend of over 140°, though the tension is slightly loose. The hands are connected via ball joints to soft rubber hands, allowing not only rotation but also a certain degree of inward and outward movement. The waist-to-chest joint can rotate, but is limited to around 30°; the waist and hips themselves do not have rotational articulation.

▼The shoulders feature butterfly joints, allowing a certain degree of outward and inward movement.

▼The chest-to-waist joint can perform a slight chest thrust of about 15 degrees.

▼It can also compress inward, and when combined with the forward bending joint, enables a forward bend of around 35 degrees. However, from the rear view, this exposes some unsightly gaps—especially when the wing backpack is not attached, which further limits the bending angle.

▼The chest-to-waist joint also allows for about 15 degrees of lateral tilt.

▼At the top of the thighs, there is a significant downward-extension joint to enhance articulation. This joint is a bit too tight, so be cautious when handling it.

▼With the aid of this drop-down joint, the side kick range can reach up to 90 degrees.

▼By unlocking the side thigh panels via the transformation structure, the side kick range can even go up to around 110 degrees.

▼Forward and backward kicking motions are very smooth, allowing for a full front split.

▼There is a thigh swivel at the base, and the drop-down joint is used to avoid interference when rotating the leg inward or outward.

▼Inner thigh includes an inward hinge to cross legs or do leg-over-leg poses. Note: This joint is weaker than the drop-down, so it’s easy to accidentally trigger during thigh adjustments—requires finesse.

▼Knees are double-jointed; the lower leg has vertical tail fin parts that contact the thigh when bent.

▼ If bending further, thigh panel swings open via linkage, allowing difficult parts to fold inside thigh, achieving ~120° flex—this clever mechanism doubles as transformation and articulation aid.

▼The ground-pound pose is effortless—her palm can even touch the ground directly. However, to make the upward head tilt appear more natural and cinematic, StarQueen’s upper body was raised slightly.

▼The wings use Z-joint extension + flap hinge + swivel, allowing fully customizable wing poses.

▼The included display base has a drawer to store all accessories—great for preventing loss. Drawback: the stand is soft plastic with loose tolerances, making poses unstable. Advisable to pose StarQueen with both feet on the surface whenever possible.

▼Another downside: the transparent material scratches easily. After a few poses, her heels have left white marks on the base.

▼Besides the null-ray weapons, all melee gear is original design: a pair of blue daggers fitting into the hands or mounted on forearm slots as arm blades.

▼The shield can be held or used to store the daggers behind as a shield-spike.

▼Next, backpack optimization trick: the aircraft nose module connects via a C-clip to the backpack—removing it reduces bulk. Re‑fold and the backpack instantly looks cleaner.

▼With the nose removed, no more bulky attachments below wings—the figure becomes more stable.

▼The nose piece transforms into an abstract arm cannon and can house daggers on both sides. Unfortunately, tolerances are slightly off: the cannon peg is loose, needing reinforcement; the dagger slots are too tight and benefit from slight widening.

▼As mentioned, the backpack holds most flight parts, so it transforms into a jet on its own.

▼The cockpit canopy typically uses the robot chest for transformation; here, you use the spare canopy included. Other than that one swap, the entire backpack transforms in one unit, yielding a smooth experience once you learn the clearance sequence.

▼Following the instructions, the rear might seem missing tail fins. I popped up two exhaust pieces above the nozzles to give visual balance.

▼The wings flip freely, and the company thoughtfully included null-ray missile mount ports on both upper and lower wing surfaces for varied angle attachments. But lacking root locking pegs may mean loosening over time.

▼Side profile is sleek—no unnecessary hanging parts under belly. Because the backpack is separate from body transformation, there’s no undercarriage, so I folded null-ray rods down to act as landing gear, inspired by MP‑52 engineering.

▼The shield fits under the belly, locking both side wings in place. The dagger retainers also help hold panels together.

▼In this mode, there’s enough space inside the belly to store the pair of daggers.

▼Here are some photos of the backpack integrated mode.

▼Compared to official V‑class Siege Starscream, the 19 cm StarQueen is noticeably taller – her legs reach up to Starscream’s neck.

▼And beside Big Firebird Arcee, the proportions match well—Starscream is canonically taller than Arcee. From casual viewing angles, both fit a pseudo‑MP size.

▼When conjoined with the backpack, the full jet form is complete. The calves fold back into the tail to make a fuller aircraft profile.

▼Although the “jet‑back figure” aesthetic is unavoidable, the final aircraft mode remains harmonious—the shell and legs blend cleanly, evoking a subtle nod to Kobayashi’s 30th Anniversary Deluxe Arcee.

▼Side view: nothing extraneous hangs from the belly. But common third‑party issues appear: many joints lack locating pegs. For example, the thighs need a slight drop to fit flush with the body but lack guides—only one soft lock near the nozzle. I spent a while adjusting that during my first transformation.

▼Even with the shield and null-ray arms mounted beneath, the jet mode hangs meet together well; stronger wing root locks would add stability.

▼Remove the shield and you see the belly packing all the humanoid parts—tight and logical layout, acceptable visually.

▼Jet mode’s fuselage is long—almost equal to Siege Starscream’s entire jet length. Size and presence are impressive. As a transformable Bishoujo toy, both modes are highly finished.

▼CollectionSpace has clearly made impressive progress with StarQueen. Compared to previous releases, this is a leap forward, justifying the current price point. The figure is refined, highly poseable, easy to transform, and delivers a complete jet mode. Some flaws remain—joint calibration, inconsistent part tolerances, and missing locking pegs in certain areas—but they’re not game‑breaking and are fixable in future releases.
Naturally, a Starscream mold invites many repaints. Let’s hope each new Mecha Girl gets more personality and design differentiation. I’m looking forward to it!
