DX9 Mini 04 God Ginrai

▼Today I’m bringing you the upcoming DX9-MINI release, the small-scale God Ginrai. It’s been over a year since the prototype was first shown, and after all this time of refinement, this figure is finally about to be released. I’m giving you an early review to see how the toy performs.
Since the unit I have is still a sample for review, it doesn’t come with the official packaging or manual yet; those will be included with the production version. The contents of the toy include the Ginrai main figure, a small Ginrai figure, the trailer, dual guns, and dual shoulder cannons.

▼Ginrai’s design can be considered a G1 Optimus Prime “remix.” The blue parts on the head sculpt have a metallic paint finish, and the eye color also reflects the animation version of the head sculpt.

▼Compared to G1 Optimus Prime, Ginrai has a slimmer body, fewer excess parts, and sharper lines. These details make the robot mode look noticeably younger than Optimus Prime.

▼Due to the design of the original toy, Ginrai also has relatively complete truck cab parts on the back. This results in most Ginrai figures having to deal with both fake and real truck heads. The DX9-MINI version, like the G1, places the fake truck head at the front and the real truck head at the back.

▼The Ginrai head sculpt can rotate horizontally and tilt up at a large angle. The arms can rotate vertically and lift slightly past 90 degrees. The upper arms can rotate horizontally, elbows bend 90 degrees, and the wrists can rotate. Except for the thumb, the other four fingers are grouped in pairs and move together; each finger base has a hinge joint. The waist can rotate, legs can kick forward about 90 degrees, kick sideways nearly 90 degrees, and kick backward a smaller angle. The thighs can rotate horizontally, knees bend well past 90 degrees, and the feet can plant forward and inward. The main figure of Ginrai basically includes all the articulation of the Masterpiece line, and because the robot mode has little excess, posing looks clean and sharp.

▼The transformation of the main Ginrai figure is relatively complex, with most of the steps concentrated in the chest armor of the robot mode. The complexity ensures a high level of completion in vehicle mode. Aside from some exposed clips due to the small-scale design, the truck shell remains relatively complete. One reason many people dislike Ginrai’s vehicle mode is that the truck only has a single row of rear wheels, which doesn’t look quite right compared to reality or the original G1 Optimus Prime design.

▼By transforming the cab slightly, you get this cube shape—familiar to anyone who knows Ginrai—used for the combined mode’s cab. Fans with a certain brand’s BOX figure can try to see if it’s compatible.

▼The transformation of the trailer is much simpler than the main figure, mostly involving large-scale folding steps. Combining the transformed trailer with the cab gives us the familiar God Ginrai.
God Ginrai’s proportions match the animation, with a tall and slim overall silhouette. Even though it’s small-scale, to match other toys in size, this combined mode is roughly equivalent to a V-level toy. The combined mode has little excess, and the shoulder armor maintains a trapezoidal shape even without the shoulder cannons, with separate pieces provided for this.

▼The toy has a backpack on the back, generally a single board shape with the trailer and cab connecting arms. Whether this is acceptable depends on the user, but the thickness is within my acceptable range.

▼God Ginrai’s head sculpt can rotate horizontally and tilt up and down. Arms rotate vertically and lift slightly past 90 degrees. Upper arms rotate horizontally; elbows bend nearly 180 degrees. Wrists rotate; the hands are semi-articulated, with the thumb having a ball joint, the index finger a hinge joint, and the remaining three fingers moving together with two hinge joints.
The waist can rotate; legs can kick forward about 90 degrees, kick sideways slightly past 90 degrees, and backward about 60 degrees. Thighs rotate horizontally, knees bend about 180 degrees. Feet have two ground-contact joints, allowing both the forefoot and heel to plant inward. The articulation of combined-mode Ginrai has no obvious shortcomings, and posing is fine, though the foot design requires careful adjustment of the center of gravity.

▼The weapon set includes dual guns and dual shoulder cannons, the standard configuration for God Ginrai. With the gun handles’ pegs fitting the articulated hands, the dual guns stay firmly held, and the shoulder cannons can be adjusted as needed.

▼The small Ginrai figure is very tiny, so be careful not to lose parts while handling. The small figure has minimal detailing and basic paint; mine has slight paint overspray that can be touched up. Surprisingly, aside from lacking a swivel joint in the head, the small figure’s articulation is almost identical to a core-class figure, which is rare for a figure of this size.

▼As mentioned before, the trailer transformation is much simpler than the main figure. The trailer is highly complete, with the shell mostly intact and the rear wheels planting without issue. Through the connecting arms, it attaches to the cab, and the included swivel joints allow adjustment of the cab-trailer angle.

▼The two shoulder cannons can mount on the trailer as turrets, a feature of the original toy, and the dual guns can be stored inside the trailer.

▼The trailer doors can open, providing ample space. If the dual guns are not stored, a small vehicle of appropriate size can fit inside, which I demonstrated for reference.

▼The small Ginrai figure attaches in vehicle mode the same way as in robot mode. It’s fine to know how it works, but don’t try to replicate it in real life.

▼This small-scale God Ginrai is one of the highest-quality small-scale toys I’ve recently played with. Its robot, vehicle, and combined modes all have high levels of completion. Correspondingly, the figure has many separate parts, comparable to many standard-scale toys, and the transformation is relatively complex but still smooth for play. Small-scale Ginrai products are very rare, and this one not only fills the market gap but also meets my quality expectations. Now that Ginrai is out, I’m sure Super Ginrai is also in the works, and I look forward to a future ultra-God Ginrai.
