▼Today, I’m bringing you a review of the metal-colored Optimus Prime in a very small scale, produced by Galaxy Toys. I’ve previously reviewed the prototype of Galaxy Toys’ original-color Optimus Prime, and I gave high praise to the design of the mold back then. Since it was still a prototype at the time, there were inevitably some issues with the workmanship, and since the original G1 Optimus Prime had minimal paintwork, many parts were left in the plastic’s original color. Now, they’ve finally released a fully painted metal-color version of this small Optimus, so I’m bringing you a review right away. Let’s see how this toy performs.
![Galaxy Toys MPH Leader King Optimus Prime red blue robot weapon Galaxy Toys MPH Leader King Optimus Prime red blue robot weapon]()
▼Since the version I have here is from the production stage, the toy comes with official packaging. The box artwork depicts Optimus Prime bursting out of the Ark, with the Galaxy Toys logo, product number, and name on the top left and bottom. The back of the box shows Optimus Prime in vehicle mode, and the overall design of the packaging is simple, without too much information.
![Blue red Optimus Prime robot vertical standing pose detailed torso Blue red Optimus Prime robot vertical standing pose detailed torso]()
The contents of the box include the Optimus Prime figure, a small gun, and an energon axe. There is no manual in the box, but you can scan the QR code on the top of the box to get an electronic version of the instructions.
▼This time, the small Optimus Prime truly features full coverage of metallic paint. The figure has a lot of alloy parts to begin with, and with this metallic paint, it really feels like a die-cast Optimus Prime when you hold it.

▼The head sculpt of Optimus Prime is quite good, with strong G1 vibes. The blue metallic paint on the helmet looks great and is more refined than the original version. However, the silver paint on the head sculpt I have shows noticeable overspray and paint chipping. Although the toy is small and these painting issues aren't too obvious, once you zoom in on the photos, even the dust on the figure becomes apparent, and the paint defects are exposed. This is not ideal, and I hope the manufacturer pays more attention to quality control in future production batches.

▼For this metallic version, the windows have been changed to clear parts, allowing you to see the transformation mechanism inside. The original version also had metallic paint on the abdomen, but the metallic color on the new version is darker, which gives it a more alloy-like look.

▼The leg design is relatively simple, with the upper thighs painted in a dark gray metallic color and the lower legs and feet in blue metallic. There are neat light blue patterns inside the leg details, though it’s unclear if this is a spraying inconsistency or intentional. Regardless of the reason, this design makes the legs look less monotonous.

▼A big advantage of this mold is that the back is very cleanly finished. Aside from a small amount of vehicle light details on the back, there are no obvious excess parts. However, there is some paint chipping around the vehicle lights, which we’ll discuss later when talking about vehicle mode.

The head can rotate fully and tilt slightly upwards. The arms can rotate 360° and lift about 90°. The biceps rotate, and the elbows bend well beyond 90°. The waist can rotate 90° and bend forward at a large angle. The legs can kick forward 60°, sideways and backward about 90°. The thighs rotate, the knees bend over 90°, and the feet can move up and down to make contact with the ground.
▼The metallic Optimus Prime's articulation is on par with the original version, reaching the typical standard for official Generation 1-style toys. You’ll have no problem posing it. Compared to the original, the joints on the metallic version are slightly tighter, but still within the comfortable range for play.
![]()
▼The weapons included with this version are the same as the original, consisting of a small gun and an energon axe. The small gun’s color has been changed from the original black plastic to a silver metallic, which I personally think looks better.
![]()
▼The energon axe is the same as the original version, made from orange-yellow transparent plastic and can be easily attached to the hand. These two accessories are the iconic ones for G1 Optimus Prime, and as I mentioned before, I think the manufacturer could consider adding a jetpack accessory. However, I guess they didn’t include it because the vehicle mode wouldn’t be able to store it.

▼I’ve also compared this new metallic version with the original version for you, and the differences are clearly visible. In my opinion, the metallic version offers a huge improvement in terms of texture over the original. The metallic Optimus Prime gives off a completely different feel compared to the original, and if I had to choose between the two, I would recommend the metallic version.

▼Compared to the official small-scale Core Class toys, the Galaxy Toys Optimus Prime is simpler, and they’re technically not the same style, so it comes down to personal preference.
![]()
▼The backpack design from Galaxy Toys is definitely superior. The official version’s backpack is clearly limited by part division, while Galaxy Toys’ version avoids this problem. Additionally, the official Core Class Optimus Prime has quite a lot of visible gaps, which Galaxy Toys’ version doesn’t have.
![]()
▼Transformation is simple, roughly on the same level as the official Core Class D-tier Optimus Prime. The transformation design is very similar to MP-01, being simple yet effective. The vehicle mode is the classic G1 Optimus Prime truck cab, and the transparent windows really improve the look of the vehicle mode. The downside is that the vehicle lights on my version have significant paint chipping, and the gaps on the cab are too large.
![]()
▼The overall truck is a bit long, but the rear design is very clean. This part is actually better than many official toys. However, the left side of the truck has a tight spot near the last wheel, so it doesn’t roll smoothly, likely due to the rivet being too deep. This isn’t a major issue, though.
![]()
▼Compared to the official Core Class Optimus Prime, Galaxy Toys clearly has the advantage. Whether it's the proportion of the vehicle parts, the level of detail, or how the human-form structure is exposed, Galaxy Toys does a better job. However, there’s a difference in part count, so it’s a bit unfair to compare them directly.
![]()
To conclude, the Galaxy Toys metal-colored Optimus Prime continues the excellent mold from the original version and applies full metallic paint coverage. Because it already features a lot of alloy parts, the addition of the metallic paint makes the figure feel quite solid. However, the paint has noticeable issues, particularly with overspray and chipping, especially on the head sculpt and vehicle lights. The figure’s design is stunning, articulation is solid, and the accessories include the iconic G1 weapons. If the paint was a little better, it would be an even better toy.
▼The transformation is a simplified version of MP-01, making it easy yet effective. The vehicle mode is also well done for a small-scale toy. Considering the very reasonable price, if you missed the original color version of Optimus Prime, this metallic version would be a great choice. It works well for display and casual play.
![]()
▼To be honest, I didn’t expect Galaxy Toys to release a metallic version of this Optimus Prime, and I certainly didn’t expect it to turn out looking so good. Personally, I really enjoy small-scale toys and also appreciate the official Core Class toys. This Optimus Prime is priced similarly to the official Core Class but offers more parts. In today’s market, where consumers are more price-conscious, we naturally gravitate towards products that offer better value for money. This is why I recommend this metallic Optimus Prime. I’ll also discuss some of the fun official Core Class toys in a future review, so stay tuned if you're interested!
