IronFactory EX-77 Megatron Samurai Edition Review

Today, I’m sharing IronFactory’s new product: the Samurai-style Tyrannosaurus. IronFactory hasn’t released many new products in 2025, but what surprised me was that they had something big hidden for the end of the year. This Samurai-style Tyrannosaurus is, in my opinion, the most impressive release from IronFactory in the past year, and it truly showcases IronFactory’s unique features. How does the toy perform? Let’s dive into the review and find out.
▼The packaging follows the usual IronFactory Samurai series style. However, since this is a relatively larger product, the box has been designed horizontally. The back of the box mainly displays images of the toy in both modes and shows its articulation.

▼The contents include the Tyrannosaurus figure, three sets of replacement hands, and the instruction manual. The Tyrannosaurus is the simplest IronFactory product in terms of contents in the past year; aside from the replacement hands, there are no other accessories, but this doesn’t affect the toy’s performance. The design of the toy is based on the BW Tyrannosaurus, with added Japanese-style armor. The proportions are muscular, and if placed in a Soulslike game, it would probably be a final boss, and a multi-stage one at that.

▼The head sculpt retains the classic BW facial design while adding gold decorations to the helmet. The Tyrannosaurus’ expression is a wild grin, showing white teeth, which adds a bit of arrogance compared to the more composed look in BW.
![]()
▼The chest features the signature dragon tooth structure from BW Tyrannosaurus, with dragon tooth-like details on the outside, decorated with sandalwood or possibly parrot tail plates. The skirt armor and thigh armor have a similar gold-green design, with golden patterns etched onto the green surface.

▼The right arm retains the classic dinosaur head, but the dinosaur head now has a large pouch, which, while intimidating, seems more comical than fierce.
![]()
▼The left arm transforms from the dinosaur tail, resembling a crab claw. Inside the claw, the full hand structure is retained, and different hand poses can be achieved using the interchangeable hands.
![]()
▼The toy has a noticeable backpack, but this isn’t a drawback since the original BW figure also had a backpack. The backpack is not overly thick and doesn’t affect the appearance, so I find it acceptable.

▼The toy's head sculpt can rotate 360 degrees and tilt slightly upward. The arms can rotate vertically, the upper arms can rotate horizontally, the right elbow can bend more than 90 degrees, and the neck of the dragon head functions like a wrist, allowing it to rotate and adjust the head’s orientation. The left elbow can bend nearly 180 degrees, the forearm has an additional swivel, and the wrist can rotate 360 degrees. The waist can rotate horizontally, and the upper body can lean forward about 45 degrees. The legs can kick forward and sideways close to 90 degrees but cannot kick backward. The thighs can rotate, the knees can bend well over 90 degrees, and the ankle can touch the ground in all directions. The Tyrannosaurus’ articulation is generally on par with other classic toys, and it poses normally with no issues.

▼This Tyrannosaurus does not come with additional weapon accessories. The weapons are the right-hand dinosaur head and the left-hand giant claw. The right dinosaur head can open its mouth to reveal a cannon, and the giant claw can also open. Personally, I think it would be great if Tyrannosaurus had a long weapon, such as a sword or halberd. If we consider the left claw as a sword-like weapon, it would be possible to hold a halberd in one hand and a sword in the other, like Isshin Ashina. The halberd could retract, and you could shoot from the dinosaur’s mouth, delivering an Ashina Style American Iaijutsu.

▼The transformation process is not difficult, around a V-level difficulty. Since the humanoid form has a lot of armor, you need to avoid interference during the transformation.
The beast mode adds a layer of Japanese-style armor to the BW Tyrannosaurus. I initially thought the beast mode might be a bit fragmented with large gaps, but in reality, the Tyrannosaurus is very well integrated, especially the blue-green armor along the dragon’s back, which has a high level of completeness.

▼The head and legs in beast mode are articulated similarly to the humanoid form. However, due to the transformation design, the tail has almost no articulation. But the two small front claws each have a ball joint and a directional joint, making the poses in beast mode more natural.

▼IronFactory is known for its highly aesthetic humanoid designs, and this Samurai-style Tyrannosaurus maximizes this advantage. The humanoid form is highly detailed, and as a BW reimagined product, it captures the character traits very well. The transformation process is easy, and the beast mode has a high degree of completion. Overall, this is a product with very few flaws. If you’re looking to try IronFactory, I highly recommend starting with this Tyrannosaurus. For long-time IronFactory fans, this Tyrannosaurus is definitely a must-have.
