Today, we’re taking a look at Lucky Cat’s upcoming new release, Venus, also known as the transforming mecha girl Arcee. This Arcee takes inspiration from the design of Furai Model Arcee while featuring an original transformation design and vehicle mode. The Furai Model Arcee has generally been highly praised for its appearance, but as an assembly model, it cannot transform. This time, Lucky Cat has added a transforming gimmick, making up for the regret of having a Transformers character that cannot transform. How does the toy perform? Let’s find out in this review.
▼The toy’s packaging is relatively understated. The box lists the toy number and product name, with gears and floral patterns as decorative elements. The back of the box mainly shows line-art-style images of the actual toy, with no other excessive information.

▼The contents include the Arcee figure, two pairs of interchangeable hands, two guns, a stand with a base, and an instruction manual. When the toy is first taken out of the box, it is not completely transformed into position, so you need to make some adjustments yourself. It is very obvious that the design is based on Furai Model Arcee. However, it is not directly copied from the Furai Model Arcee as many people might think. Because it needs to transform, all the parts were newly designed and made. It uses the appearance of Furai Model Arcee, rather than its structure.

▼The head sculpt retains the original Furai Model design, which combines G1 Arcee with a modern mecha-girl style. The face has been changed to a flesh tone, giving it a stronger biomechanical feel. Through the transformation mechanism, Arcee’s goggles can also be retracted. Personally, I prefer the look with the goggles on.

▼The main body of Arcee completely retains the original design while being enlarged, upgraded with die-cast parts, and given a detailed paint job. For someone lazy like me, not having to apply stickers is really great. Applying the stickers on the original drove me crazy, while Lucky Cat has directly done all the paintwork for you, saving quite a bit of effort. The feet have also been changed to die-cast parts. Although the backpack is relatively large, the figure still stands very securely.

▼The original Furai Model Arcee also has a backpack, but because of its alien style and the fact that it does not need to accommodate transformation, the backpack is not very large and mainly serves as decoration. With Lucky Cat’s version, you can clearly see elements of an Earth vehicle in the backpack. In fact, it stores most of the vehicle shell. You can tell that the designer wanted to make it into a two-piece backpack similar to G1 Arcee’s, but because of the limited volume of the vehicle shell, these two pieces are still a little thick. Looking at it from another perspective, if G1 Arcee had actually chosen an Earth vehicle, perhaps her backpack would have ended up looking something like this as well. The rear skirt armor here is a newly added structure by Lucky Cat and was not present on the original. The skirt armor gives me a bit of the feeling of the back of a maid skirt, somewhat similar to Sandrone.

▼The head can rotate horizontally and look up and down. The neck can also rotate horizontally and adjust its angle, but the neck joint on my copy is a little loose, so I guess I just got unlucky with this review sample. The arms can rotate vertically and raise to nearly 90 degrees. The upper arms can rotate horizontally, the elbows can bend 180 degrees, and the wrists can rotate horizontally and adjust their angles. The waist and abdomen can rotate horizontally and bend forward and backward. The legs can kick forward and backward well beyond 90 degrees, and kick sideways beyond 45 degrees. The thighs can rotate horizontally. After adjusting the position of the wheels on the legs, the knees can bend close to 180 degrees. The ankles can rotate horizontally and achieve 360-degree grounding. Arcee’s articulation is roughly on par with a conventional articulated figure, but because the design looks so good, posing her is quite satisfying.

▼Arcee’s weapons are two small guns. One is included with the original version, while the other is transformed from an upgrade kit for the original small gun. I think the design here is quite good, and Arcee now gets to have dual guns as well.

▼Combining the two guns gives you this large sniper-rifle-like weapon. This large weapon is somewhat different from the original design. It does not have the original blade, but the muzzle has an obvious retractable mechanism, perhaps intended to simulate a combined upgrade or firing effect.

▼The included stand was shown earlier. The panel on the base can be opened, and there is some storage space inside where you can store the unused interchangeable hands and other parts.

▼Arcee’s transformation design is relatively difficult. Unlike traditional transforming mecha girls, where the main body barely participates in the transformation and is simply wrapped in the vehicle shell, Lucky Cat’s Arcee has the main body participate in the transformation. In addition, the vehicle-shell parts are divided into quite a lot of separate pieces, so the first transformation and adjustment takes quite a bit of time.
The benefit of the complex transformation process is that the vehicle mode also has a high level of completion. Arcee transforms into a pink convertible sports car. Both the original G1 Arcee and Furai Model Arcee went for an alien-style vehicle design, while Lucky Cat has chosen an Earth-style vehicle this time. I imagine that if G1 Arcee were to choose an Earth vehicle, it would probably be something like this as well.

▼The entire vehicle shell is very complete, and the pink paint has a pearl-like finish. The graphics on the doors read “RC86.” What RC and 86 mean, any Transformers fan will understand. Above the rear wheels, there is also the text “LOOKS ARE ALWAYS DECEIVING.” The rear of the vehicle also has some nice detailing, while the protruding exhaust pipes add more visual tension to the sports-car mode.

▼The biggest highlight of the vehicle mode, besides the extremely complete outer shell, is the inclusion of a fully detailed vehicle interior. The doors can open, revealing a complete steering wheel, center console, and floor mat detailing. There is even a separately molded rearview mirror piece on the front windshield. When was the last time we saw a Transformers toy with rearview mirrors?
The feet of the robot mode transform into the seats of the vehicle mode. This is quite an innovative design, and other manufacturers could probably take some inspiration from it. If you have a small figure of a suitable size, you can also put it inside, and I imagine the effect would be quite good.

▼From the underside of the vehicle, you can roughly understand the overall transformation concept. Normally, I don’t show the underside of transforming vehicle toys, but this time I’ll show it to everyone. Lucky Cat has made very efficient use of the available space. Both weapons can be stored perfectly, while the presence of the floor-mat parts also prevents the underside from being hollow.

▼This Lucky Cat Arcee is the kind of toy that takes the design to the extreme. Both modes have a high level of completion. The robot mode retains the excellent main-body design of the original, looks great in poses, and the newly added dual-gun gimmick further improves the playability. The vehicle mode is an original design and, as a transforming toy, is one of the rare ones to feature a complete vehicle interior. The design of the feet transforming into seats is also quite groundbreaking. Because the toy needs to maintain a high level of completion in both modes, its structure is divided into quite a lot of pieces, so the transformation requires quite a bit of effort. However, considering that the toy looks extremely good, I think it’s acceptable for the transformation to be a little more difficult. I still highly recommend this Arcee.
