Grahf: LONG story short:
DNA omitted the one piece that people were actually wanting them to do. A piece that according to their original tease for this kit, they were doing. The piece that causes the breakage issues in the first place.
That being the grey internal extension piece that seems to be either bloated or designed incorrectly and actively pushes against the insides of the abdomen causing small pieces to break and the abs to crack from the pressure.
Hasbro "fixed" the issue by making new figures without any retooled parts and then sanding down the sides of the grey internal "T bar" causing the problems. The figures are then assembled and sent out to people who filed complaints. All for free. Oh AND you get to keep the broken figure as well.
Not a great fix as it's just a home remedy applied to the figure in the factory. But it should theoretically make it so that it never happens again.
In DNA's case however, all they did was give a replacement abdomen for the broken one and gave braces for the internals of the already broken figures.
Now I can take those braces and apply them to the one I still have in box and everything should be fine.
But to the one I opened days before the issue was reported that has already broken, these pieces don't really do anything. The braces they provided assume that the internal "teeth" that they reinforce are unbroken. Which just isn't the case in every problem figure. So you will be required to try and fix those "teeth" in order to properly put the braces in place. Meanwhile you'll be breaking most of the teeth off as bending them back into place will most likely cause them to snap off. You could apply heat from a hair dryer or a heat gun to the broken teeth in an attempt to move them back into place without breaking but that runs the risk of warping or outright melting the plastic in the area the heat is applied to. But it is an option.
Even if all that goes right, the main problem still isn't fixed. The grey t-bar itself. If you don't know to also sand down the sides of that, there's a good chance that this new DNA abdomen piece will also eventually crack. DNA might have redesigned the internals of their new abdomen replacement to prevent that, but if they didn't, then the same issue could potentially occur and you'll be right back where you started. And I mean, there's two sets of red braces and they only show where one set goes. So I'm figuring that the second set is used on their new piece. Which could be the case given how wildly different the designs are between the two sets. Meaning that DNA provided braces to a piece they newly designed. Think about that for a moment if it is true.
That's the short version remember. The barrier to entry with this kit that DNA is avoiding.
As for the rest of the parts:
What the hell man?
Double partsforming torso extender for Magnus. Makes the already way too tall Magnus even taller.
Partsforming hinged flaps that allow the Optimus super mode hands to awkwardly attach to the "Super" Omega Prime mode. The hands should've been moved to the sides of the lower legs to form side leg turrets. The top is too cluttered already.
Partsforming hinge braces that allow the Optimus super mode shoulder pads to become side skirts for the "Super" Omega Prime mode. I actually like the concept of these.
Partsforming abdomen brace for Optimus in Omega Prime mode. Not needed as built in braces already exist.
Partsforming clavicle fillers for Magnus. *YAWN.
Partsforming backpack brace with 5mm port to store their Master Sword. Fine, I get it.
Replacement clip piece for the ladder to better attach to the side of Omega Prime's arm. Good.
Hand fillers for Magnus instead of replacement hands. Lame and boring, already have some.
Blue pieces that I had trouble figuring out where they went. They go on the backs of the legs under the knees to add two 5mm ports where a screw hole exists. Was going to say that I didn't know what these did but as soon as I typed it all out it hit me. I think they're to allow the feet from Optimus' super mode to attach to the feet of "Super" Omega Prime. Okay I guess. They don't partsform in any event so that's good on it's own.
Replacement hands for Omega Prime. FINALLY, an actual upgrade to the base set and not just optional parts.
But uh...where are the replacement hands for Optimus' super mode too? Magnus and base Optimus not getting new hands is one thing but super mode Optimus not getting new hands either? That's just lame and lazy.
Two partsforming arm blaster things. I think they only work on Omega Prime's arms and the sides of Magnus' truck mode. Lame if that's the case. These seem to be needed for the ladder and chest plate from Optimus' super mode to attach to the arms. Okay I guess.
NOTHING FOR BLUEBOLTS!!!!!! Not even fillers. Not that I need them.
Just when I thought DNA was back on track...
I hope it's because this is an older kit finally being released. Otherwise they're on the decline again.
