Codone Hydro: It's not that it's a knockoff - most KOs I've purchased have been as good or better than the official versions - but rather that it's just not a great mold that holds back this figure in my eyes. If I start at the bottom and move up, the hips and upper legs are immediately problematic. They're extremely close together and give Ratchet a strange, hourglass effect from his upper body to how lower.
After that, the hip skirts. These are not good. Granted, there *is* a fix for this in the Shadow Fisher kit, the kit is extremely rare and pricey on the rare occasions when it does pop up. Next, the abdomen and upper body. It's trapezoid-shaped rather than rectangular, like on the show, and the weird, beer gut look is just not flattering. I really can't stress enough just how much this makes the character look different or off to me.
Beside those issues, I do like the head sculpt, arms, lower legs, accessories and alt modes quite a bit. The character is recognizable and easy to handle and transform, if you're into that, which at least makes it a good product to pick up and play with without too many concerns about breakage. But given my hesitance to ever transform my figures, it leaves me with a suitable but lacking robot mode.
Codone Hydro: He’s being reissued, so there is a chance we’ll see more of the Shadow Fisher kits (or a similar type) reissued as well, but without that fix, I liked this figure a lot less. You can even just take off the hip skirts themselves, which helps a little, but the flawed shape of the chest window is a big deal to me, and with it compounded by the hip skirts, I was very mixed on this guy.
But I did eventually dig up the kits for about $35 each (they routinely sell for over twice that now) so if you can find them, he’s a good-looking figure.
I’ve also heard rumblings of a possible re-release of Ironhide and Ratchet though, in a more cartoon-accurate mold.
