Takara Tomy Masterpiece MP-59 Rhinox Unpacking

▼It has been 21 years since the first MP01 was launched in 2003. Now this series is about to be discontinued. Of course, it is only in name. There are a lot of repainted and remodeled models under the name of MPG on the way. But no matter what, MP59 Rhino Warrior is still the penultimate MP toy, so it still has some commemorative value.

At present, in my mind, the entire MP product line with the name of MP is Movie>Super Warrior>G1, and the two recently released MPM15 Brawl and MP59 Rhinox just prove my point. After the amazing Noisy, Rhino Warrior seems a bit ordinary, but the overall quality is still better than MP58 Hoist, and there is a clear gap in the performance of the three.

The rhino form of Rhino Warrior is very similar to the previous MP Super Warrior character styles, and the restoration is quite good.

▼Compared with characters like the Sky Saint, the rhinoceros with less hair and thick skin is more suitable for toy use. The texture of the rhinoceros warrior's leather armor is very good, and the overall shape of the rhinoceros is still restored. On this basis, some magical details are added to the horns and other parts.

▼The toy captures the rhino's expression quite well, but it's a pity that the rhino's belly is not smooth enough and has a noticeable bulge.

▼In addition, there is another shortcoming that cannot be ignored, that is, there are too many holes and eyes on the cow's body, especially on the hind half, which seems a bit excessive.

▼The rhino's belly reveals many features of the robot's shape, and the overall look is not smooth enough. In order to restore the cow's hooves on the robot's legs, cow's hooves paint also appears on the rhino's belly, which is an obvious flaw.

▼The rhinoceros' head is very lifelike, with a pair of intelligent big eyes that look good. The ears are connected to the head through ball joints and can rotate flexibly. There are spiral patterns on the pair of horns, which can be regarded as a magical transformation from an animal to a machine.

▼The rhino's mouth can be opened to reveal two rows of teeth. According to the original setting, the rhino's lower jaw will become the robot's chest. However, for MP who pursues restoration, the size difference between the two is too big, so he can only make a fake lower jaw in the robot form.

▼After the rhino's head is pulled out of the torso, it shows a certain degree of mobility, and its head can turn a small angle to the left and right.

▼Apart from this, the rhino's mobility is unremarkable. The base of its limbs has a very small range of motion, and the rhino can only trot by moving its knees.

▼The weapons of the Rhino Warrior can be inserted into the excessive sockets on the back half of the body, but after inserting them, it will destroy the overall sense of the animal shape. It is better to store them directly in the torso of the rhino.

▼The size of the toy is not small, and it allows Optimus Prime to ride on the rhino's back through a buckle. This foreshadowing that has lasted for many years makes people cry, but... where is my Sky Saint? In short, it can even be compared with the ceramic version of the vegetable dog. It feels heavy in the hand and is majestic enough when put in the cabinet.

▼The transformation design of Rhino Warrior is quite standard, and it is still a process of wrapping and unpacking. Overall, there is no surprise. What is commendable is the extreme space utilization. The sturdy hind legs of Rhino Warrior are almost completely stored in the robot form, and the huge palm of the robot is almost hidden in the rhino form. In addition, a cannon of Rhino Warrior can be placed in the rhino torso. It is extremely difficult to achieve all the above, which of course makes the transformation of Rhino Warrior not so smooth, especially the buckle of the front half of the rhino torso during the inversion process is really entangled, and it pales in comparison with mpm15.

Its robot form still has an extremely excellent restoration degree, continuing the high level of the Super Warrior line.

▼From the side, the Rhino Warrior's backpack is very large. In addition to the size of the backpack, the shape of the backpack is also a problem. The stacked parts and exposed sockets make the Rhino look very toy-like.

▼On the contrary, the back of the backpack looks pretty good, and the stacked parts and exposed interfaces disappear from this angle.

▼There is no need to worry about the level of the head sculpting in the MP series. Everything else may fail, but the head sculpting in the MP series rarely fails. The head of the Rhino Warrior is both realistic and lifelike, and it is undoubtedly a high-level performance.

▼Like its beast mode, Takara Tomy Masterpiece MP-59 Rhinox's head can also open its mouth, though not as wide as Rhino's.

▼In fact, the MP design of the BW series is not easy. Details that were ignored at the beginning of the world are tasks that must be completed for MP. The legs of most Rhino Warrior toys are simply deformed cow legs, but this will cause problems with the proportion of the rhino and the robot. Therefore, the MP series, which aims to restore the original, can only handle the cow legs and human legs separately. The rhino's hind legs are folded and stuffed into the inside of the human calf, while the robot's legs in the rhino form are filled in the rhino's abdomen. The design is indeed clever, but the price is that there is an extremely unnatural large piece of plastic on the rhino's abdomen.

▼The same is true for the cow's mouth on the robot's chest. The lower half of a real rhino's mouth is hidden inside the backpack, and the mouth that appears is actually the part that is folded over from the rhino's chest and abdomen.

▼The mobility of the toy is average. The huge bull-head backpack affects the balance of the Rhino Warrior to a certain extent. In addition, the gear joints in its lower body are slightly fragile, so it takes some effort to make the Rhino stand upright when playing with it.

▼Its arms can be raised horizontally, but its lower body is a bit stiff, its knees can only bend 90 degrees, and it has to lift up its skirt armor to move its hips. However, it is not difficult for the rhino warrior to squat, which far exceeded my initial expectations.

▼In addition, Rhino Warrior has very flexible five movable fingers and wide feet that can offset the huge backpack to a considerable extent. Overall, its ability to pose exceeds its mobility.

▼The toy has a rich variety of accessories. The two handheld machine guns and Gatling hammers are very powerful. One of them can be hidden in the rhino's belly during transformation, thus achieving complete storage of accessories.

▼In fact, the paint jobs of these two guns are much better than the main body, which is also a rare thing... In short, this is a pair of weapons with excellent appearance and stable grip, which can greatly enhance the convex modeling ability of Rhino Warrior.

▼In addition, the toy package also provides a piece of equipment for rescuing Optimus Prime, a replacement face, a small bracket that allows Optimus Prime to ride on the back of a rhino, and a fire source to match the plot of the animation.

▼All these accessories together have greatly improved the playability of MP-59 Rhinox. It can be said that its robot form may be the one with the most playable ways among the recent MP works.

▼Rhino's beast form is quite large, but its robot form is horizontally developed, so it is much shorter than Optimus Prime. Of course, the BW series and G1 series each have their own body settings. Most BW characters are over 2 meters tall, while G1 Optimus Prime is 6 meters tall, so when the big brother and Rhino stand together, the proportion is actually quite small.

In general, MP59 is a BW series toy that performs above the standard. Its overall quality is a top-notch work among MP toys in recent years, but it is not particularly outstanding in the entire BW line. It can beat Black Widow and Yellow Panther Warrior, but not as good as Dinosaur Warrior and White Tiger Warrior, and it is not as good as the two leaders, Optimus Prime and Tyrannosaurus Rex without the windmill waist problem. Its best feature is the high degree of restoration of the characters. Whether it is the beast form or the robot form, it has shown a very high level in this regard. In addition, the excellent playability brought by the rich accessories and the powerful posing ability are advantages that cannot be ignored. On the other hand, its appearance is lacking in details. The rhino belly with a strong sense of toy and the humanoid backpack have room for optimization. Rhino Warrior is also lacking in mobility.

As for the transformation design, which is extremely important for Transformers toys, Rhino Warrior has achieved the ultimate in space utilization, and almost perfectly handled the different shapes of the rhino's mouth and hind legs in two forms. However, it performs averagely in terms of fluency. It takes a lot of effort to splice the rhino's skin shell together when it is reversed, which lowers my overall evaluation of this toy.
