XingGang Mechanical Planet Cybertron Transformers Primus
Material: ABS

▼Today I’m bringing you a transforming mechanical planet figure made by a manufacturer called “XingGang.” The design of this planet clearly takes inspiration from Transformers’ Primus. For convenience, I’ll just refer to it as Primus from here on. When this Primus was first released and still priced relatively high, I didn’t find its value particularly impressive. But recently, I noticed a sudden price drop, so out of curiosity, I picked one up to review and see what kind of toy you can get at such a low price. Let’s follow the review and find out how it performs.
The one I have here should be the e-commerce version of the packaging. I’ve seen another version in physical stores with a transparent window. The box mainly showcases product images and some highlights, so we’ll skip over that.

▼The contents include the Primus figure, arm blade, shield, and instruction manual. The size of the figure is roughly comparable to an official Leader-class Transformer. As a god-tier Transformer, this size isn’t particularly large.

▼Even though it’s a low-priced toy, the head sculpt is actually quite good. Primus’s stern expression gives off a divine vibe. The blue and gold paint has a metallic finish and there are no obvious signs of missing or bleeding paint.

▼Primus’s chest armor is covered in densely packed, asymmetrical detailing. Through molded parts, tampographs, and paint applications, it achieves quite intricate color separation. There’s even a magical orb-like structure in the center of the chest—can you believe this kind of detail appears on a low-cost toy?

▼Although the limbs of this Primus are molded symmetrically, the paint creates an asymmetrical effect. The right shoulder pad has more tampographs than the left, and the paint and tampo layout on each forearm is entirely different. Typically, budget toys cut corners in areas like this, but this Primus does the opposite.
![XingGang Transformers Primus figure included accessories and stand XingGang Transformers Primus figure included accessories and stand]()
▼I won’t even go into detail about the small tampographs on the thighs—they’ve practically become standard on this Primus. The lower legs have a gunmetal layer applied to the planet shell, and the color separation on both the inner and outer sides of the legs differs, helping avoid visual fatigue during play.

▼As a figure that transforms into a planet, Primus inevitably comes with a large backpack—an unavoidable challenge for most planet-former Transformers.

▼The head can rotate horizontally and tilt slightly upward. The arms can lift outward to nearly 90 degrees and rotate vertically. The elbows use ball joints and can rotate and bend slightly over 90 degrees. The waist doesn’t rotate. The legs can kick forward and backward about 90 degrees, but only about 45 degrees outward. The thighs can rotate, and the knees bend around 90 degrees. The feet don’t tilt. On my figure, the right ankle joint is ridiculously loose—like a clapperboard. Not sure if that’s just my copy or a widespread issue.

▼Primus comes with an arm blade and a shield. The shield’s size and shape are fine, but the arm blade is definitely odd. A god-tier Transformer like Primus should wield a large sword, scepter, or some other grand weapon. This blade, though creatively formed from the planet mode’s stand, still feels like a bit of a cop-out—very underwhelming in appearance.

▼The bizarre part is that the manufacturer added a bunch of Earth buildings to this Cybertron-like planet. According to the packaging, from left to right the images show the Great Wall, Pyramid, Mosque, Moai, Parthenon Temple, and Sphinx.
Although most of the buildings are stylized, more detail is never a bad thing.

▼In summary, this recently released Primus really exceeded my expectations. While it is definitely a kids’ toy, its overall performance surpasses its price point. With tons of asymmetrical tampographs and metallic paint giving the mechanical planet a premium finish, it’s surprisingly impressive for the price range. I value toys based on what they cost—if a toy is cheap, I judge it accordingly. At this low price, it’s a decent Cybertron display piece, and the fact that it can even transform is a bonus.
