Today I’m bringing you a look at YOLOPARK’s new release, the AMK PRO Tarn. I remember that when YOLOPARK first revealed this Tarn at an exhibition, it immediately caught the attention of countless collectors. YOLOPARK had previously released an AMK version of Tarn, and this time the AMK PRO version is a comprehensive upgrade based on the original AMK. How does the figure perform? Let’s follow this review and find out.
▼The packaging of the YOLOPARK AMK PRO series uses a slipcover plus box design. The artwork on the slipcover features a highly dynamic image of the actual figure. YOLOPARK’s box art style not only works well for live-action movie characters, but also looks great on IDW characters. The back of the slipcover mainly shows Tarn’s combined look, some play features, and production information.

▼Inside the slipcover, the box itself has line-art illustrations of Tarn and Nickel on two sides. The line art is finished with a holographic effect, which is a consistent design style of the YOLOPARK AMK PRO series.

▼Inside the box are three runners in total: one for Tarn, one for Nickel, and one for the weapons and base. This time, Tarn’s assembly process is the simplest among all AMK PRO releases so far. All of the outer armor parts are already installed on the main body, so players only need to assemble the figure by connecting the various body sections—there’s no real need to even look at the instruction manual. This is extremely friendly for someone lazy like me, and I hope YOLOPARK keeps pushing in this direction.
After assembly, the contents include the Tarn main figure, the Nickel figure, the instruction manual, a stand, and a base.

▼This time, Tarn comes with two versions of the face mask: one standard version and one battle-damaged version with scratches. The previous AMK version only included the standard mask, but the AMK PRO version gives you both, allowing you to swap them according to your preference. Through a magnetic switch, Tarn’s eyes can also light up red, and the lighting effect is quite impressive.

▼The mask can be removed directly to reveal the humanoid face sculpt underneath. This time, Tarn’s face uses newly tooled parts, sculpted in a heavily battle-damaged style. I compared the previous AMK version with this one, and although the two have completely different styles, the PRO version clearly looks better and has much stronger visual impact.

▼This AMK PRO Tarn from YOLOPARK can be considered the most accurate Tarn currently available on the market, with overall accuracy reaching over 90% compared to the comics. As a product from the AMK PRO series, the figure features almost full paint coverage across the entire body. The edges of the armor are covered with irregular simulated battle-damage paint chipping, and rust and grime effects are added in the crevices of the armor.
Compared to the previously released AMK version, the AMK PRO version’s paint application has increased by more than just one level. The PRO uses a large amount of metallic paint and weathering effects. If the AMK version feels more like a toy, then the AMK PRO feels more like a realistic “model.”

▼One excellent aspect of the AMK PRO series is that the paintwork on the back of the figure is not treated carelessly at all. Any metallic paint and weathering applied elsewhere is fully present on the back as well. Around the simulated hydraulic structures behind the knees, there is very obvious grime detailing, which also matches how real mechanical systems would look in operation.

▼The head sculpt can rotate, look up and down, and tilt side to side. The arms can rotate vertically and raise to nearly 90 degrees. It’s worth noting that due to Tarn’s unique shoulder armor design, you need to lift the shoulder armor first to create clearance before raising the arm. When the arm is raised, the rib armor also moves in sync, so there’s no need to worry about gaps. The upper arms can rotate, and the elbows can bend far beyond 90 degrees. The wrists can rotate, and the hands can adjust angles. The hands are fully articulated: the thumb has one ball joint and one hinged joint, the index finger is independently articulated, and the remaining three fingers move together, each with two hinged joints.

▼The waist and abdomen can crunch forward, and when doing so, the “lobster back” on the rear also moves in sync. The waist can rotate, and the legs can kick forward, backward, and to the side by about 90 degrees. The thighs can rotate, and the knees can bend far beyond 90 degrees, with multiple linked joints moving together. The feet can rotate and achieve full contact with the ground front, back, left, and right. To do so, the armor on the top of the foot needs to be opened for clearance, and the front of the foot can bend downward. Tarn’s articulation continues the consistently high standard of the AMK PRO series, and articulation has never really been a concern for this line. Although the articulation of AMK PRO and AMK is largely similar, the joints on the AMK PRO are noticeably tighter. At the same time, because the AMK PRO adds more than thirty die-cast metal parts across the body, the figure feels heavier in hand and more satisfying to play with.

▼Tarn’s signature weapons are this pair of double-barreled cannons. The cannons are massive—if they existed at this size in real life, most people probably wouldn’t be able to lift them. The AMK PRO version adds lighting to the cannons, with three familiar lighting modes: constant on, flashing, and breathing, corresponding to normal state, firing, and charging modes.

▼This large circular base and the snake-shaped stand are also standard accessories for the AMK PRO series. Using the stand and base allows Tarn to achieve poses that wouldn’t be possible while standing on the ground.

▼The highlight of this AMK PRO Tarn set is that it includes a Nickel figure. Nickel can be considered Tarn’s companion and was once the maintenance and logistics member of the Decepticon Justice Division. Even though it’s an included bonus, Nickel is not handled carelessly at all. There’s no need to go into detail about its accuracy—the antennae on the head and shoulder armor, as well as the wheel-shaped feet, are all faithfully reproduced. Nickel’s assembly process is actually even more complex than Tarn’s, with about 1.5 times as many steps, which shows just how much care went into its design.

▼Nickel comes with a flight backpack, and players can choose whether or not to equip it according to their preference. However, whenever I see a flight backpack now, I can’t help but think of that whole Optimus Prime and Sideswipe situation.

▼The six maintenance tools on Nickel’s chest are all separate parts and can be removed for Nickel to hold in its hands. Nickel’s articulation is also roughly in line with standard Generations-style figures today, except it lacks thigh swivel. Considering that Nickel’s feet are wheels, the lack of thigh swivel doesn’t really cause any issues.

▼The manufacturer also provides a dedicated base for Nickel, which can connect directly to the figure. Although Nickel’s feet are wheel-shaped, the wheels have been flattened slightly, so even without the stand, Nickel can stand normally without any problems.

▼Although this AMK PRO Tarn from YOLOPARK is an upgrade over the AMK version, the extensive changes result in a final presentation that is completely different from the AMK. AMK PRO Tarn achieves full paint coverage, uses a large number of die-cast parts, and offers extremely high accuracy. It also includes a high-quality Nickel figure. Nickel alone would be more than sufficient to sell as an AMK MINI, and when included with Tarn, it essentially feels like a buy-one-get-one deal. The value for money here is truly undeniable. As the most accurate Tarn figure currently on the market, this AMK PRO Tarn comes highly recommended.
