Today we're taking a look at APC Toys' latest release: Shattered Glass Optimus Prime. Here's a fun fact: the last new product APC Toys released was the battle-damaged Megatron back in 2024. After more than a year, APC Toys has finally released something new. There was an unreleased Shattered Glass Optimus Prime concept in the Japanese Transformers: Prime toy line, but APC Toys didn't copy that canceled color scheme exactly. So what's the story behind it? Let's find out in today's review.
▼The packaging follows APC Toys' familiar style. In the center of the box is artwork of Shattered Glass Optimus Prime. Seeing this artwork brings back memories. A few years ago, I bought APC Toys' transparent Bulletproof Optimus Prime, and its packaging used the original full-color version of this same artwork. So many years have passed, and seeing this recolored illustration again really makes me feel how quickly time flies.

▼The inner packaging also uses APC Toys' familiar pearl foam insert. I have to mention this every time I see it. Compared to plastic trays or cardboard inserts, this foam packaging offers much better protection for the figure, greatly reducing damage caused by compression and impacts during shipping. This foam certainly costs more than plastic trays, yet APC Toys has consistently stuck with it. It may seem like a small detail, but it reflects the manufacturer's attitude.

▼The package includes the main figure, Star Saber, two swords, two blasters, an alternate head, a Star Saber connector, and the instruction manual. The manual is the same version that has been used since the transparent release, which feels very familiar.

▼The figure comes with the masked face installed by default. Using a screwdriver, you can swap it for the mouth-face version. Unfortunately, I didn't have a screwdriver on hand, so I simply let Optimus Prime hold the alternate face for everyone to see. There's something special about this masked face. Most Optimus Prime masked faces take on a completely different personality once they're given an evil color scheme, even though the sculpt itself hasn't changed at all. Personally, I don't think the mouth-face version looks evil enough, so I'll stick with the masked face.

▼There's really no need to introduce the original Transformers: Prime Optimus Prime mold. It's been regarded as legendary for many years. The sculpt is highly faithful from head to toe and showcases the official designers at the peak of their abilities. This time, APC Toys' Shattered Glass Optimus Prime color scheme isn't based entirely on the canceled Japanese Transformers: Prime concept. After comparing references, I believe it's actually based on the BOTCON 2012 exclusive Shattered Glass Oil Tanker Optimus Prime. The yellow transparent parts are infused with a large amount of pearl-like material, giving them a sparkling appearance. The faux windshield on the chest also features the iconic crack unique to Shattered Glass Optimus Prime, making this version instantly recognizable.

▼The biggest weakness of this mold is the backpack. Most of it is used to store the vehicle shell around the doors, making it look quite different from the animation design. Even so, the two exhaust stacks on Optimus Prime's back are still faithfully represented.

▼The head can rotate horizontally and tilt slightly upward and downward. The arms can rotate vertically and raise to nearly 90 degrees. The upper arms have swivel joints, the elbows bend slightly beyond 90 degrees, and the wrists rotate. The legs can kick forward and backward about 90 degrees and move outward to nearly 90 degrees. The knees swivel and bend about 90 degrees, while the ankles provide side-to-side tilt for stable footing. Although this mold is over ten years old, its articulation is no worse than today's Generations-style figures. Combined with the excellent sculpt, it's incredibly satisfying to pose.

▼The twin blasters feature a nested grip design, allowing them to appear as though they're deploying directly from Optimus Prime's forearms, just like in the animation. The Shattered Glass blasters are black with subtle battle-damage paint applications across the surface, fitting the post-apocalyptic style of Shattered Glass Optimus Prime.

▼The Star Saber, Optimus Prime's signature weapon from the latter part of Transformers: Prime, is naturally included as well. If I remember correctly, this Star Saber originated from a third-party upgrade kit. The blade, hilt, and pommel are separate pieces. To equip it, you remove the pommel, place the hilt into the figure's hand, and then reinstall the pommel.

▼Using the included connector, Optimus Prime can carry the Star Saber on his back just like in the animation. Everyone is already familiar with this feature, so I won't go into detail.

▼The twin blasters and twin swords can also be combined into this bladed gun configuration. This gimmick originally came from the first-release Transformers: Prime mold. Since the original figure only included one sword and one blaster, they were designed to combine for storage in vehicle mode. APC Toys includes two swords and two blasters, and since vehicle-mode storage isn't really an issue here, this feature isn't actually necessary.

▼The transformation process isn't difficult, but it's extremely clever. The same transformation engineering was later used in the Dark of the Moon Voyager Optimus Prime, as well as Studio Series SS05, SS32, and many Optimus Prime figures derived from those molds. Even today, this transformation concept is still being used, which speaks volumes about how classic this design truly is.
The vehicle mode has an excellent overall appearance. The windshield features the signature crack, while both sides of the cab display the phrase "THE REST SHALL FALL." This is clearly adapted from Optimus Prime's iconic quote, "ONE SHALL STAND, ONE SHALL FALL," and is also an important characteristic of the BOTCON 2012 Shattered Glass Oil Tanker Optimus Prime.

▼In addition, the vehicle body features large white crack-like paint applications. Some of the transformation structure is exposed behind the cab, one of the few visible transformation elements in vehicle mode.

▼By combining the blasters and swords, they can be mounted onto the two ports at the rear of the truck. As I mentioned earlier, the original mold only included one sword and one blaster, which combined and plugged into the center rear of the vehicle. APC Toys includes a pair of each, so they mount separately into the two ports on either side of the rear. Personally, though, I don't think it's necessary. I'd rather leave everything unmounted and keep the vehicle mode looking clean and complete.

▼Overall, my biggest impression of this Shattered Glass Optimus Prime is just how incredibly solid this mold is. The original Transformers: Prime Optimus Prime mold is something every Transformers fan should experience. A transformation design that has remained in the official product line for well over a decade speaks for itself. At the same time, this Shattered Glass color scheme fills a gap among the existing color variants of this mold. The iconic Shattered Glass paint applications from head to toe clearly distinguish it from APC Toys' previous Optimus Prime releases. I wonder whether APC Toys has any further plans for this mold. Maybe an ultimate premium paint version of Optimus Prime, or perhaps a reissue of the 2.0 version along with the trailer? I'm really looking forward to it.
