edhelangas: My package has finally arrived and although I love this version I have mixed feelings. Keep in mind that Sideswipe is one of my favorite characters so I may be quite critical.
On the one hand I think it's the best Sideswipe figure out there. The one with the least flaws. The reduction of the torso stylizes him a lot, brings him closer to the cartoon and allows better possibilities to pose and cross his arms in front of his chest. The head seems to me to be one of the best. In the image I didn't get the feeling, but when I hold it in my hand I like it even more. It is true that it is a little thinner than expected, but I recognize that the final feeling it has pleased me more than I expected. The finish of many of the parts, smoothing surfaces and hiding parts gives a better result.
On the other hand... I would have liked it to be a little bigger. By reducing the chest has been stylized in part too much (or at least that's the feeling I have when comparing it with FT-48 Jive Jazz, considering the dimensions of the classic toy always seemed to me more corpulent Sideswipe than Jazz). He has a couple of parts in the transformation that have not convinced me. The way it compresses the leg gives me problems and I can't seem to close the latch all the way. The two parts that form the pectorals I have not been able to get them to fit into the peg under the center square, and the shoulder straps I have not been able to get them to attach to the intended protrusions. Once transformed, the robot has a couple of pegs showing (like the one behind the arms, as shown in the images) that stand out too much breaking the smoothness of the transformation and bending the knee too much leaves the joint in view in a somewhat artificial way.I appreciate some of the articulations of the hands but in the end they look weird, especially without pronouncing the trigger finger, and the big finger can not be bent. The gun can only go in the right hand limiting the poses. All these problems are due to the fact that the hands are part of the transformation, they are not hidden but “embrace” the forearms when in vehicle mode.
Compared to Jive Jazz the materials are of poorer quality. More plastic and less metal than this one. But it is also true that it is half the price.
I am also not convinced by the violet tint of some of the white pieces. It is excused to resemble the drawings but the result is not entirely to my liking.
I find original the hammers that turns to the two versions of the pistons that are known in Sideswipe and they look cool (although I would have preferred the swords of the Devastation version of the game), but honestly I would have liked some more faces to change.
As it was the first transformation some of the joints were quite stiff .... although on the other hand there was none loose so it was not really a problem.
However, after playing around with it, setting up some poses for photos, the list of problems disappears a bit (except for the hands, which sometimes you don't seem to know how to get them right) and I think it's the best Sideswipe MP scale so far. In the pics I compare it with the 4th Party Masterpiece MP-12 Sideswipe. Also with the classic comparison with 4th Party MP-39 Sunstreaker, which is what made me decide to buy this one when I saw it. And for those who need a larger scale, you have the comparison with Magic Square MS-02TC Light of Peace Optimus Prime.
In my case I must also point out that one of the crystals of the headlights came off and although you can put it back has been loose. Any advice to glue it or something to keep in mind before using the glue that is not appropriate?
