Takara Tomy Missing Link C-01 Optimus Prime Toy Version w/ Trailer
Review Updated.
As a seasoned Transformers enthusiast, I recently received the C01 Optimus Prime to accompany my previously acquired C02. Here’s a deep dive into the differences between the two, and why C01 stands out as the better purchase.
The C01 is significantly more worth buying compared to the C02. In addition to including a trailer, Roller, and a repair platform, its paint job far surpasses that of the C02. The only downside is that C01 features the G1 toy paint scheme, complete with more decals and yellow eyes, which may not match the familiar blue-eyed look of Optimus Prime. This strategic move by the manufacturer likely aims to boost sales for both versions, forcing some fans to buy both.
Currently, with mass production and re-releases in full swing, the price of C01 has dropped significantly from its peak to a more reasonable range, which is why I decided to purchase it now.
The C01's box is noticeably larger than the C02’s, and while the cover art remains the same, the contents are richer.
▼The head sculpts of both models are quite similar, with the main difference being the color of the leadership module.
▼Opening the head reveals a stark difference: the C01's leadership module and surrounding areas are fully electroplated and gleaming, whereas the C02 features a simple paint job, lacking the visual impact.
▼The C01, adhering to the toy color scheme, proudly displays the Autobot symbols on both arms and both sides of the truck cab.
▼However, the biggest draw for many fans is the trailer included with the C01.
▼For many fans, equipping the C02 with this carriage is probably the full form of Optimus Prime.
▼The trailer can be opened naturally, transforming into a repair platform.
▼Small balls are also an essential element, and I am more dissatisfied with the fact that the wheels of the small balls are removed from the plates, and they cannot be restored after the small balls are installed.
▼In vehicle mode, there’s little to differentiate the two, but in robot mode, the differences are much more pronounced. Even at a glance, the disparities in shoulder markings, forearm decorations, and leg sticker details are evident.
▼The markings on the shoulders, the paint on the forearms, and the sticker details on the legs are all different.
▼Notably, the Energon axe included with the C01 is a bright yellow, contrasting with the darker yellow of the C02's axe.
▼Additionally, the leadership module in the C01 is a shiny, premium piece, clearly outclassing the C02's version.
▼Ultimately, the MP44S showcases the pinnacle of modern toy design, while the C01 and C02 reflect the manufacturer's mastery of nostalgic marketing. Given the choice, which would you prefer?
